vcurran: Sometime around 1990 I traveled from my New England home on a business trip to Missouri. On my first morning there, I went to get breakfast in the cafe at my hotel, and before I even looked at the menu, the waitress poured me a big glass of iced tea.
I felt like Rip Van Winkle. "Last night when I went to bed, it was December! Did I sleep straight through to Memorial Day?" As a Northeasterner, I'd never seen iced tea served in midwinter, much less at breakfast. But as I quickly learned, in the Midwest there's no wrong time to drink iced tea.
Since then, the Notheast has adopted the custom of drinking iced tea year round (though not at breakfast). Does anyone out there in culinary cyberspace want to share your thoughts on regional patterns of iced-tea consumption?
