About me

Greetings! I am a tumbleweed who originally hails from the Midwest-Kansas to be exact (and please, no Toto jokes-that's reallly tired!).  I graduated one day, moved to Seattle the next-the day Mount St. Helens blew...was it an omen? Worked there in radio four years & became tired of feeling like this atmosphere was a continuation of college (except more exciting with concerts, bands invading the station and having to close for the day to fend off the crowds and drink champagne!) I wanted to work in the "real" world then and so I moved to Los Angeles to work in television in la-la land (ahem, the real world??) It was yet a continuation of working and drinking champagne (but that's not such a bad thing, right?) and there I met my husband while working for "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous" - yeah, I know, so much for the real world!

I then went to cooking school in L.A. after my first son was born because I didn't want the crazy hours of television production/post...well, we know how that goes...but began my foray into food...having been brought up in a household with homemade bread made everyday, everything from scratch laid out on the evening table and the summer's bounty canned and preserved to relish throughout the winters, I realized after cooking school that I knew most of what I had learned through my mother, I only learned the correct terms for them in school for she was and is my true inspiration.

After having children we began to see life realistically and knew we didn't want the kids brought up there so moved back here (as we came back to the cape throughout the year anyway). Steve, my husband, is an Emerson grad and spent time in Boston...and that brings us to now with children in high school.

Now that you know some of my background, I love spontaneity (something I must admit was difficult to find here.  Don't get me wrong, the people are great but wow! what tough nuts you are to crack!).  I appreciate good food as well as the humble...I've been exposed to both. I hate the pretensions associated with either.  If you're serving a hamburger than make it the best danged hamburger there is and don't be embarrassed by it...it's that simple.  I love wine and I adore champagne but I'd be happy to toss back a good beer with you, as well.  I love dancing, listening to music, writing, watching a sunset on the beach , having my morning coffee or a cocktail over the private cliffs of the Outer Cape, laughing with my family, camping and hanging with family and friends.. I become restless and want to venture a bit further...ergo the tumbleweed name....That's it in a nutshell....

One day while perusing Craigslist, I came across an interesting ad. I love seeing another angle on what's happening in local restaurants—the ones that need new help every week (and wonder why). I love to check out the real estate and restaurants for sale, and I also enjoy seeing the "treasures" people have to see if there's anything I can strip, paint, or practice some new technique on in my down time—much to my husband's chagrin. But this one da...

The flu season is still with us and I find that I am returning to natural remedies as often as heading to the local drug store.  I am no doctor or pharmacologist but anyone who studies or works with herbs, even minimally, begins to know their nature and can experiment with some of these herbs and spices with pretty much no severe repercussions.  I would much rather ingest these natural products and see their effectiveness over a synthetic laboratory produced chemical...

As a new member of Foodsville, aka Coolsville, and a member of the Porkers, the upcoming trip in March to eat bbq has obviously struck a hidden, unbeknownst-even-to-me, passionate pork pileup that must be released.  I am passionate about all food and go on experimental food trials cooking or baking the same thing over and over until I hit what I find pleasing (or until my family waves the little white food flag!) be it cookies, molten chocolate cakes, pates, breads, various hot...

It is with lip-smacking anticipation that I await my first Foodsville foodie trip for bbq next month. BBQ has always been in my veins having been brought up in Kansas where the best barbecue reins supreme. The Kansas City BBQ Association is one that governs many of the cook-offs through out the country including the annual Massachusetts sanctioned event held near here.

Now 'cue affiliation is one that is extremely personal to each of us and something each area of the U.S. will att...
